The Local Development Pilot Project (PPLR) “Island of Cres” was implemented as part of the Regional Program for Cultural and Natural Heritage in Southeast Europe, which has been implemented by the Council of Europe since 2003. The program, which consisted of three components (institutional capacity building, heritage rehabilitation and local development), included Albania, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Croatia, Kosovo, Romania and Serbia.
PPLR Island of Cres is aimed at creating a long-term regional development plan for sustainable development of the island, applying the methodology proposed by the Council of Europe to national and local partners. The project engages the local population as a key driver of development. It consists of several phases that should lead through diverse cooperation, commitment and interdisciplinary expertise towards creating guidelines for sustainable development of the island.
